Amar Bhidé

Bhid茅, who now researches the (including ) has been studying innovation and entrepreneurship for thirty one years.
He was previously the Laurence D. Glaubinger Professor of Business at Columbia University. He served on the faculties of Harvard Business School (from 1988 to 2000) and the University of Chicago鈥檚 Graduate School of Business. A former Senior Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company and proprietary trader at E.F. Hutton, Bhid茅 served on the staff of the Brady Commission which investigated the stock market crash of 1987.
Bhid茅 is a founding member of the and spearheaded the launch of its journal, in 2005 which he edited (with Prof. Edmund Phelps) and 鈥 and served as chief cook and bottle washer 鈥 until 2017. He is also a member of the and a (RSA).
He is the author of A Call for Judgment: Sensible Finance for a Dynamic Economy published by Oxford University Press in 2010. His 2008 book, The Venturesome Economy: How Innovation Sustains Prosperity in a More Connected World, (Princeton University Press 2008) won the Association of American Publishers鈥 PROSE Award for Professional and Scholarly Excellence in Business, Finance, and Management, and was in the 鈥淏est of 2008鈥 lists of the , and . Bhid茅 also authored The Origin and Evolution of New Businesses (Oxford 2000), and (Basic Books 1984).
His ten Harvard Business Review articles 鈥 the first published in 1982 鈥 include 鈥淗ustle as Strategy鈥 (1086), 鈥淏ootstrap Finance: the Art of Start-ups (1992),鈥濃滺ow entrepreneurs craft strategies that work (1994),鈥 and 鈥淭he Judgment Deficit鈥 (2010). His work on financial markets and governance includes 鈥淭he Hidden Costs of Stock Market Liquidity鈥 in the Journal of Financial Economics. He has written numerous articles, dating back to 1981 in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, BusinessWeek, Forbes, the Financial Times and The LA Times.
Bhid茅 earned a DBA (1988) and an MBA with high distinction as a Baker Scholar (1979) from Harvard. He received a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1977.
